Cambridgeshire Freemasons “Auction of Promise” Helps Newmarket Scouts

Newmarket Scouts

St. Wendred Lodge, which meets at Newmarket Masonic Hall, were thrilled to present a cheque for £700 to the 1st Newmarket Scout Group during a recent meeting at the Scout Group Headquarters. The presentation was long overdue as the lockdowns and Covid-19 restrictions had previously prevented a visit.

The money was raised by St Wendred Lodge through raffles and a quiz night which included an "Auction of Promise” with Lodge members donating some fantastic lots. This has been further supplemented by funding from City & University of Cambridge Masonic Charitable Trust.

Jun Thompson, the Group Scout Leader, said “Many thanks to St Wendred Lodge for this generous donation. It will be used to buy equipment to support the group's activities, and this includes the purchase of an event shelter, barbeque and new maps and compasses.”

Paul Pearson, Master of the Lodge, said, “We are delighted to be able to give our support to the 1st Newmarket Scout Group. It is always important to us to support our local community.”
